It’s National Book Lovers Day, and I’m a book lover! To celebrate, I decided to share with you guys my list of light novels that I want to read.
My Neighbor Totoro
by Tsugiko Kubo, Hayao Miyazaki
Synopsis
Eleven-year-old Satsuki and her sassy little sister Mei have moved to the country to be closer to their ailing mother. While their father is working, the girls explore their sprawling old house and the forest and fields that surround it. Soon, Satsuki and Mei discover Totoro, a magical forest spirit who takes them on fantastic adventures through the trees and the clouds–and teaches them a lesson about trusting one another.
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (Haruhi Suzumiya #1)
by Nagaru Tanigawa, Noizi Ito
Synopsis
Haruhi holds the fate of the universe in her hands . . . lucky for you she doesn’t know it!
Meet Haruhi – a cute, determined girl, starting high school in a city where nothing exciting happens and absolutely no one understands her.
Meet Kyon - the sarcastic guy who sits behind Haruhi in homeroom and the only boy Haruhi has ever opened up to. His fate is now tied to hers.
Meet the S.O.S. Brigade – an after-school club organized by Haruhi with a mission to seek out the extraordinary. Oh, and their second mission? Keeping Haruhi happy . . . because even though she doesn’t know it, Haruhi has the power to destroy the universe. Seriously.
Welcome to the N.H.K.
by Tatsuhiko Takimoto

Twenty-two-year-old Satou, a college dropout and aficionado of anime porn, knows a little secret—or at least he thinks he does! Believe it or not, he has stumbled upon an incredible conspiracy created by the Japanese Broadcasting Company, N.H.K. But despite fighting the good fight, Satou has become an unemployed
hikikomori—a shut-in who has withdrawn from the world…
One day, he meets Misaki, a mysterious young girl who invites him to join her special “project.” Slowly, Satou comes out of his reclusive shell, and his hilarious journey begins, filled with mistaken identity, Lolita complexes—and an ultimate quest to create the greatest hentai game ever!
Book Girl and the Suicidal Mime
by Mizuki Nomura
Synopsis
For self-styled “book girl,” third-year high school student Tohko Amano, being the head of the literary club is more than just an extracurricular activity with minor perks. It’s her bread and butter . . . literally! Tohko is actually a literature-gobbling demon, and instead of the less palatable option of water-soaked bread, she opts to munch on torn out pages from all kinds of stories. But for Tohko, the real delicacies are handwritten stories. And to satisfy her gourmet tastes, she’s employed (aka. browbeaten) one Konoha Inoue, an underclassman who has retreated from writing novels after his experiences with getting published at an early age. So day in and day out, Konoha scribbles away to satisfy Tohko’s appetite. But when, one day, another student comes knocking on the literary club door to seek advice on writing love letters, will Tohko discover a new kind of delicacy to whet her voracious appetite?
Fighting Boy Meets Girl (Full Metal Panic! Novel #1)
by Shouji Gatou
Synopsis
Jindai High School was a relatively safe place, right up until Sousuke Sagara transferred there. A total nut, he wreaks havoc on the school’s student body and gets into a world of trouble with the teachers! But there’s more to Sousuke than meets the eye–not just a hell-raising student, he’s actually a member of an elite military unit, on an undercover mission to protect the beautiful schoolgirl Kaname Chidori from the KGB. Discover the mystery as this comedy-action-science-fiction story unfolds!

I’d also recommend Spice and Wolf. I was pleasantly surprised. No fanservice or ecchi and the romance is a slow build based on friendship and respect.

I’ve seen the anime, and I loved it. Didn’t know there were light novels though. I’ll check it out!

Awesome! There are quite a few of them though. I wish there were more being localized for the female audience. I’m honestly really sick and tired of all these ecchi soft porno ones.

Ugh, I agree. The same thing happens when I try to find anime games too.

Some of us just want to read light novels play games for the content, not the boobs.

Lol but the fanboyz say otherwise….

Yeah. But I guess I’m the same as them when it comes to yaoi and male fanservice.

Lol ok I guess that’s fair. I just think that compared to echhi and stuff, a lot of yaoi and things like it tend to usually have more of a plot instead of SEXY TIMEZ lol

SEXY TIMEZ?? Lmao XD.

I’ve been asking Yen Press if they’d think about it but they never responded. I’d love to see Sugar Apple Fairy tale brought over here.

Oh, I’ve read some of that one. There’s actually a WordPress site that translated the light novels into English.

Yep! I ended up buying the books after that to support it.

Oh man, same!
I’ve only read Suzumiya 1 from it, and I liked it way more than the anime (I’m one of the sods that didn’t fall in love with it, or knows why it’s so popular xDD;: ) and think it’s a really good LN.
I so want that Totoro one ;_; ლ(́◉◞౪◟◉‵ლ)ლ(́◉◞౪◟◉‵ლ)

I have only Sword Art Online and Accel World volume 1. They are good in my opinion.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Oh! I read one of Sword Art Online light novels. It was pretty good.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yeah I agree. I just read one volume and I thought it was better than the anime itself lol.

Same XD

Well anime that originated from books are usually better. Sword Art Online, in my opinion, was a good series. Too bad most people hate the series.

Sadly, I’m one of those people. The first arc was really good, but then it just went downhill for me.

Yeah I hear that a lot. I do notice the flaws :/. If Sword Art Online was paced and rewritten differently, it could have been one of those anime that always talk about in a positive way. Now I see it talk negative and positive.

In Fairy Dance, I just didn’t like the love triangle they were trying to do with Kirito, Leafa and Asuna.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Ugh, me neither. Wasn’t Leafa his cousin, or something?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yeah she was Kirito’s cousin. But I am assuming based on the relationship, I think they said they were not related. She secretly wanted to fall in love with him.

Wow. Yeah, I remember being irritated by that whole situation.

It made me feel weird. How would you feel if you had a cousin (not by blood directly) who wanted to be your boyfriend? Personally, I would feel bothered.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Believe it or not, I’ve actually been there. It’s really weird and definitely uncomfortable.

Oh, I am sorry about that. I never had this experience but I don’t think it’s pleasant.
