Nakajima Atsushi was kicked out of his orphanage, and now he has no place to go and no food. While he is standing by a river, on the brink of starvation, he rescues a man whimsically attempting suicide. That man is Dazai Osamu, and he and his partner Kunikida are members of a very special detective agency. They have supernatural powers and deal with cases that are too dangerous for the police or the military. They’re tracking down a tiger that has appeared in the area recently, around the time Atsushi came to the area. The tiger seems to have a connection to Atsushi, and by the time the case is solved, it is clear that Atsushi’s future will involve much more of Dazai and the rest of the detectives!
The first episode of this anime was absolutely phenomenal. Although there was no opening (as expected of most pilot episodes) the ending was awesome. Absolutely freaking awesome. To be honest, it kind of gave me Psycho Pass related deja vu.
I liked how we were given a subtle introduction to the main character without giving away too much of his backstory. Also, the epic plot twist towards the end of the episode was totally unexpected. Although Nakajima was the main protaganist, I couldn’t help but like Dazai more as a character. I felt like he brought in most of the humor while still maintaining that mysterious facade. However, I am very intrigued in the reason behind his suicide attempts and hope that it will be revealed in later episodes.
As much as I am ashamed (not really) to admit this, I kinda wish for Dazai and Nakajima to be love interests. If you don’t know this already, I am a huge yaoi enthusiast. And even though Dazai has stated that he’s not into guys, a girl can only hope. Right?
